The Highlander

THE HIGHLANDER

Impressively noble, The Highlander Bed is a culmination of a five year dream of Michael Craig's. Reflecting the Romanseque and Gothic periods, where architecture laid the foundation of cultural growth and master builders and cabinetmakers were accorded previously unknown respect, the clean elegant lines of the bed posts are gracefully powerful, reminiscent of the soaring columns found in cathedrals and churches of this time. Being of Scottish descent, both Michael and Rosemarie cite the influence this time period had on architecture in England, Scotland and Ireland as the origination of the name, Highlander. With an emphasis on emotional expression, the Romanesque and Gothic movements embraced art and paved the way for the coming Renaissance.

Made of solid black walnut with veneers on the headboard & footboard cut from the walnut stump, creating a very unusual and beautiful grain pattern.

Please note: the upholstered canopy is an option, not the standard.

Recamier Bed

THE RECAMIER BED

The classical lines of this bed originate with the ancient Greeks. In centuries since, the Grecian design ethic has been revived countless times, and the Eighteenth century was one such time. As revolutions in America and France swept away the old monarchies and the conspicuous frivolity which accompanied them, people sought the enlightened yet elegant orderliness of the classics. One such person was Madame de Recamier, for whom this piece is named. An intellectual and a woman of great power and beauty, Juliett Recamier's salon was attended by those at the pinnacle of Parisian society. A portrait of her reclining on her Grecian chase is considered a defining view of her era.

The Recamier Bed features a mahogany frame with brass inlays and mounts and is available in any standard size. Upholstery is executed by us in customer provided fabric. Please call for yardage requirements.
