MILLWOOD SECRETAIRE
Every now and then a commissioned piece stands out from the rest and even our spoiled eyes are impressed. The Millwood Secretaire is such a piece. Created for the Millwood Plantation, which was built by General Wade Hampton, this secretaire was a practice in joy for Michael to design and build. Michael's penchant for a broad brush produced the stretched Hepplewhite inspired legs which are daring to say the least. He was bored with the squat standard and wanted some grace and presence for this original. I believe a recent trip to French antique auctions may have flavored the Napoleonic Bonnet. The small French desks featured countless secret compartments, so let me assure you Michael has not been outdone, this piece sports nine. Select flaming veneer faces, exact replicas of the plantation's columns and enough Southern drama to take your breath away and, Voila, you have Michael Craig's secretaire. #2023 |
