Every now and then a commissioned piece stands out from the rest and even our spoiled eyes are impressed. The Millwood Secretaire is such a piece.

Created for the Millwood Plantation, which was built by General Wade Hampton, this secretaire was a practice in joy for Michael to design and build.

Michael's penchant for a broad brush produced the stretched Hepplewhite inspired legs which are daring to say the least. He was bored with the squat standard and wanted some grace and presence for this original. I believe a recent trip to French antique auctions may have flavored the Napoleonic Bonnet. The small French desks featured countless secret compartments, so let me assure you Michael has not been outdone, this piece sports nine. Select flaming veneer faces, exact replicas of the plantation's columns and enough Southern drama to take your breath away and, Voila, you have Michael Craig's secretaire.

A historically correct folding mirror which allows one a view from three angles. The beveled mirrors are edged with gold leaf mouldings. Bold touches of black lacquer and solid brass, mounted on a mahogany frame, crowned with a bookmatched mahogany face bespeak the epitome of classic elegance.

BRADFORD DRESSER

An exceptionally fine dresser with four small dovetailed drawers and six larger ones. Please note that the lower drawers are cut from one "book-matched" piece of mahogany crotches and that our solid brass capitals are made per our specifications. Delicate proportions are carefully executed on a grand scale.

Beveled glass, gold leaf mouldings and bold touches of black lacquer and solid brass combine into a handsome mahogany mirror. The bookmatched curved crown reflects the headboard of the Railroad Baron's Bed.

BARON'S CHEST

An elegant and versatile four drawer chest. Note the bookmatched select mahogany face on the generous dovetailed drawers. The top is also bookmatched mahogany and is bordered in French walnut. The subtle contrast of woods is a theme throughout the entire American Empire Collection. Black lacquer pilasters with brass capitals and solid brass pulls bring just the right touch of light to our Baron's Chest.
